PTSA Committees Committee Chair

After Prom

Open (Chair)

After Prom is an all night “lock in” party at the high school immediately following the Junior/Senior Prom. A joint effort of parent booster groups, community members, and the PTSA, After Prom is intended to provide a chaperoned, substance-free, safe environment where students and guests can continue celebrating into the wee hours. For one night, the high school is transformed into another world with over-the-top decorations, music, food, games, and prizes. The event is funded entirely by donations and relies heavily on the time, creativity, and elbow grease of dozens of adult volunteers … but it is always well worth the effort! The Loveland community is invited to tour After Prom before the students arrive.

Educator of the Year

Open

For seniors only … the chance to pay tribute to a favorite LHS teacher. Students submit entry forms describing their most outstanding teachers; PTSA evaluates nominees anonymously according to set criteria. The winner is announced at the Senior Awards Assembly. He or she receives a classroom stipend, a gift certificate for dinner, and his or her name on a plaque in the main lobby of the school. This event is co-sponsored by Loveland’s Partner in Education, International Paper.

Fundraising Gift Certificates

Jennifer Maclean

This is the PTSA’s only major fundraiser. We buy gift cards at a discount from national and local retailers and restaurants and sell them for face value – buyers pay nothing extra for the cards! The amount of profit PTSA earns on sold cards varies by vendor. Parents, teachers, students, and community members are encouraged to buy gift cards not just for gift giving, but also for purchasing everyday items. Gift cards are sold at school-sponsored events, by order form (on the stand outside the LHS office and in the school newsletter), and at this website.

Membership

Susan Scheffler

Members are the lifeblood of the PTSA, contributing both time and financial support to our programs. The membership committee promotes the PTSA, collects dues, and maintains an accurate list of members for the Ohio PTA. Membership is open year-round, and forms are available in the school newsletter, on the stand outside the LHS office, and at this website. Members of the LHS PTSA automatically receive membership in the National PTA, the largest child advocacy group in the country.

Positive Rewards

Nancy Stahl

This program recognizes students who demonstrate the T.I.G.E.R.S. principles of Teamwork, Integrity, Generosity, Effort, Respect, and Success. Students are nominated by teachers and are chosen by the PTSA anonymously based on specific criteria. Positive Rewards events, such as ice cream socials, are held three times during the year and are co-sponsored by International Paper, Loveland’s Partner in Education.

Reflections

Cindy Rahm

Katie Buck Kennedy

Reflections is an annual arts competition sponsored by the National PTA. It is open to all Loveland students in all grades. The National PTA announces a new theme each year and students create original art inspired by the theme. Students may submit works in any of six arts areas: literature, musical composition, photography, visual arts, dance choreography, and film production. Competition deadlines are announced early in the school year. A specially chosen panel judges entries at the local level, and winning entries are forwarded to the next level of competition (district, state, national). All entries are judged on artistic merit, creativity, and interpretation of the theme.

Scholarships

Maggie Bruns

PTSA has established two annual scholarships for graduating seniors who are members of the PTSA. The Linda Rae Myers Scholarship is named for a teacher in the Loveland School District who passed away in 2001, and the T.I.G.E.R.S. Scholarship is awarded to the student who best exemplifies Teamwork, Integrity, Generosity, Effort, Respect, and Success. Each of the scholarships is a one-time, nonrenewable award of $1,000 to be used for enrollment at an accredited university, college, or technical school. Applications are evaluated anonymously based on specific sets of criteria.

Staff Appreciation

Maureen Howaniec

Debbie Giles

PTSA shows the staff and administration of LHS that we understand how important they are to the success of our children’s education. Each month during the school year we say “Thank You” with a theme-related gift or food (e.g., chocolate “kisses” to show how much we Love our Loveland staff, and potluck dinners during evening parent-teacher conferences). This committee is fun and hardworking, and relies heavily on donations of goods and time.

Sunshine

Kim Molloy

The Sunshine committee marks special events in the lives of LHS staff with cards, treats, and notes of cheer or concern.

Workshops

Nancy Stahl

SAT and PSAT exam preparation workshops are held twice a year, after-hours at the high school to help our students become more familiar with the test. Professional instructors review format, content, time management, and subject matter in an effort to reduce students’ anxiety and improve scores. Workshops are typically held six weeks prior to the test. PTSA coordinates class registration and contracts with instructors.
